Maria's is our breakfast spot! We drive the 60+ minutes from Lake Charles to this quaint diner in Groves, TX. Why? Because of the chilequiles! There are three sauce options: red, ranchero, and green. Every single one is great, but green is my new favorite because it is a tomatillo based green sauce, not cilantro (I'm one of the unfortunate soapers). Ask for the extra hot green sauce (beware: it requires a dose of respect), add an over easy egg and you've got breakfast perfection. There are places in Lake Charles that identify chilequiles on their menu, but they don't know what the heck they're even talking about. Maria's does! Additionally, the staff is so incredibly friendly and accommodating. My husband and I became recognized guests after our first visit. This place gets really busy on the weekends so plan accordingly, but definitely add it to your regular stops!

Family trip to Beaumont/Port Arthur for SE 12U World Series and we were looking for a good breakfast place. I searched for local mexican breakfast and Maria's Diner popped up. Myself, my son and his family enjoyed it so much, we went back for breakfast the next day! The diner itself is small, but we didn't have to wait. We timed it just right both days. The food was really good...tasted like home cooking. The chips and salsa were fresh and they didn't skimp on them. Each of our plates were left empty (all 7 of them) both days. Would totally recommend!!

The best huevos à la Mexicana I’ve had in a while ! & the flour/ corn tortillas are home made & fresh ! The service is really fast always checking in on you & they give fresh chips & salsa . If you are visiting or in town stop here for good Mexican breakfast
